SOAP vs REST

By | March 7, 2012

So I’ve been asked to explain the difference between SOAP and REST. I’m glad I did it because I had only worked with SOAP so far and wasn’t particularly happy with it. I’ll risk saying that REST is more of a architectural philosophy while SOAP is more of a protocol for exchanging information. I admit that I still need to study deeper into hypertext driven APIs that Dr.Roy T.Fielding (http://roy.gbiv.com/untangled) so strongly defends. But I’ll leave you with a short presentation with some differences between the SOAP and REST. Remember that the presentation doesn’t include everything, I try to keep it the most text free possible so the attention can be kept on the presenter. Nonetheless, hope it can give you an idea of the differences 🙂
